Space Wave on Liftoff is a vertical shoot-em-up where your ship climbs through space waves of enemies, auto-firing while you weave through bullet patterns. The wave structure gives each section a distinct identity - drone lines, circling clusters, bosses - and clearing one advances to the next harder pattern.
The space setting fits the site's theme, but the gameplay is pure shmup. Your weapons fire automatically, so all input is movement: threading gaps in bullet curtains, positioning to grab power-ups, and surviving to the next wave. Hitboxes are forgiving but the screen gets busy.
Power-ups drop from kills: spread shots, shields, bombs. The tension is grabbing them mid-dodge - a shield lets you tank a hit, a bomb clears the screen, and weapon upgrades compound your fire density across a run.
Death resets progress, so each run is a fresh puzzle of wave order and pattern memorization. The boss encounters at stage ends are the real tests, with telegraphed attacks you learn to exploit through repetition.
